It’s a whirlwind TV watching season- with Celebrity Big Brother UK, HBO’s Looking, TLC’s My Husband’s Not Gay, Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Cooking with Drag Queens, there’s a whole lot of gay going on!

Joining us is writer Zach Stafford for the Guardian UK to navigate through the choppy waters of the TV landscape.

  1. This is the TV show I was talking about that looks REALLY good. That mom’s character looks really transcendent.

With the islam sculpture thing it is basically the idea of idolatry. Representing the human form in sculpture is seen as ‘haram’ because it is seen as creating an idle symbol. Photography doesn’t really come into it since it’s about the capture of a real life image so it doesn’t matter. But Saudi has many an extremist anyway, you’ll find someone calling anything they consider western the root of all evil somewhere.

Feels good to be back with Feast of Fun. I love Fausto and Marc and I love hearing a fellow Tennessean, Zach Stafford, bring his commentary into the mix. I love Looking. It’s the first LGBT themed show since Noah’s Arc I can actually see myself in. So you guys really thing LGBT-themed shows have to always promote LGBT-themed issues? Doesn’t that get exhausting? I mean does every film made by black people, written by black people and featuring black people have to mention Martin Luther King, Jr. and slavery or gangs? It’s very limiting. If I want to be reminded of HIV/AIDS or Stonewall I’ll watch The Normal Heart or Milk. If I want to watch a bunch of gay men live ordinary lives in San Francisco, then I’ll watch Looking. Best part about Looking is that it is way more accessible than Queer as Folk ever was. When my best straight guy friend admitted he and his wife watched it, I thought, wow, that’s really cool. That to me spells progress.

Overall what a great show. Zach is so intelligent and accomplished and I am so proud to see someone who comes from where I do succeed. Zach, please continue to do big things. Fausto and Marc, I hope you go another ten years and many, many more. The world needs you!

Love you guys like a love song! xoxo

  4. Perez makes CCB almost unwatchable. I can’t tell if he is that melodramatic and annoying all the time or if he is trying to play a character for TV. Also, most of the people are drunk all the time – which isn’t really that fun to watch – so perhaps that’s why Michele isn’t getting much air time…

I kind of love to hate Looking. It’s supposed to be slice-of-life and relatable but the dialogue is soooo bad and unnatural. Also, I agree with Zach that Patrick is the WORST character. I can’t understand how he is supposed to be a so naive and wholesome when he has lived in San Francisco for 10 years and close to 30. He’s really never seen an uncut cock? He’s never bottomed? He seems to only have that one character trait, which I find annoying and not at all endearing. I watched the first season, and once there was some mellow drama with the boss, it got into it. Otherwise, its infuriating to watch because I want to make it so much better. Most gay men could write a more exciting script based on their own wacky experiences with sex and dating.

Unbelievable that HBO picked up Looking for another season! BORING! The only reason I bothered tuning in last week was for Doris (Lauren Weedman) who is hilarious and actually has some life.
