Today we’re joined by academic drag queen Summer Clearance, who under the name Domenick Scudera is a professor of theater at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Domenick teaches a course on the History of Drag Performance, from Shakespeare to RuPaul, where he gets his students excited about the artform of drag as it “brings into focus issues of identity, authority, agency, gender variance, and masculine/feminine constructs.”

  1. Loved this interview guys but when you touched on Panti I wanted more. You guys know some stuff about here but you don’t know the real extent to how instrumental she was to changing the perceptions in Ireland. I would encourage you to look up the documentary on Panti called “The Queen Of Ireland” and learn more about her Noble Call speech really changed things. Only because I think this would make an amazing episode of your podcast.

I don’t want to over sell Panti but she has been widely declared a national icon as a result her being the symbol of the Equal Marriage referendum. Rory (Panti) has received an honour doctorate from Trinity as a result too and Panti will be giving a speech on televisions on Christmas Day (the queen of England gives a speech on television in England every year so this is sorta Irish tv taking the piss out of them but at the same putting a drag queen in your living room on the most christian day of the year and also solidifying her as our “queen” sorta).

Never met her but really from an gay Irish perspective she is a very big deal.

  2. Michael says:

I totally agree that FoF should do something about Panti – amazing character and really led a sea-change in the way a whole nation thinks of LGBT-related issues.
