Rita Moreno has had an incredible career, from her early appearance in Singing in the Rain, to winning the Oscar for West Side Story, to playing a campy entertainer mistaken for a drag queen in Terrence McNally’s The Ritz, to coming full circle as an executive producer and star in the remake of West Side Story.

In many ways, Rita Moreno’s life has mirrored how entertainment and Puerto Rican visibility has evolved through the years.

This Christmas, Steven Speilberg’s new adaptation of West Side Story is coming to theaters and folks are worried that this important film is doomed like the love between Tony and Maria.

Today Larry La Fountain, drag queen Lola Von Miramar and professor of queer and Latinx studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor joins us to take a look at the amazing life of Rita Moreno as seen in the new documentary “Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.”

Listen as we take a look at 3,000 episodes of Feast of Fun with Larry, how practically everyone is a little bit Puerto Rican these days and the complexities of Puerto Rican representation in the media.
