From the day we we’re born, LGBTQ people are often at odds with a world that doesn’t understand or appreciate who we are. Like a phantom menace, this shame follows us even though as adults we are out and proud. Queer folks face significantly higher rates of depression, anxiety and drug and alcohol abuse.

Therapist Alan Downs describes this toxic cocktail of anger and rejection in his book “The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man’s World, Second Edition.”

FOF #1832 – Puppet Bike Secrets Revealed

One of Chicago’s most beloved street performers is the Puppet Bike, a tiny puppet theater that travels around the city on the back of a bicycle. Originally started by puppeteer Jason Trusty, the Puppet Bike now involves some eight performers who make adorable, gritty little animal puppets sing and dance.

FOF #1343 – Pee Wee Herman is Back!

In the late 1970s, Paul Ruebens developed the character of Pee-wee Hermanas a challenge by the LA based improv group, the Groundlings, to create a comic that could never make it in real life.

Joining us is film maker Kerthy Fix- her new documentary “Who Took the Bomp: Le Tigre On Tour,” that focuses on the electroclash band Le Tigre premiers at SXSW.
