Coffee! Oooh does it get people’s panties in a bunch! Everyone has strong opinions about where you get it, how much it costs and it’s ramifications for society at large. Beer, another popular beverage for […]

  1. Cliff Notes on Mike’s coffee ordeal:
Mike writes about coffee price increase on Gaper’s Block.
Chicagoist calls him out on his motivations.
Mike doesn’t feel the love and blogs about it.
    Intelligentsia employee blogs about Mike.

  2. Jamie says:

Mike sounded great. He respects you guys very much. I’m happy you had him on.

  3. Thanks Jamie, that I do. And thank you, Marc and Fausto, for having me on the show. You are both as gracious, kind, and witty in real life as over iTunes. I had a wonderful time–like getting to peek behind the wizard’s curtain, only to find there the same fabulosity that comes across so clearly in the podcast! Boy, I found a great boyfriend, I’ve been on Feast of Fools, now all I need is that lifetime to pass to Disneyland and I’ll never stop smiling!

  4. Er, “pass to” Disneyland. Copyedit is not an ADDer’s forté…

  5. DavidMcD says:

All these hot bears, thanks for a great show guys.

  6. fanboyoboy says:

Don’t it just hurt when you get kicked out of an exclusive club because you become the riff raff you were trying to keep out. All snobs gets the raw deal someday, quit being a bitter queen, know that when you dish it out, you also have to take it and stop crying like a baby when you don’t get special treatment. Sick of you types.

  7. DavidMcD says:

Who was kicked out? I think David quit going to his favorite coffee place because they raised the prices.

  8. fanboyoboy says:

Well, I’m sure Intelligentsia won’t just say you can’t come back here because you don’t have enough money, so they raised their prices to subtly keep their desired clienteles.
Psychology of branding & perceived value my friend. I’m sure Intelligentsia prices were always inflated and they can do that because their customers were willing to pay and keep it a snob-fest.

If Intelligentsia decided they can afford to upgrade from their current customer for ones with more cash to throw around, then you have to pay to play or just go to Starbucks.
I hope people do not take my feedback personally, but my comments are directed at those exclusivity, whiny snobs that want special privileges.

Man up and stop wasting valuable time about how you sang their praises and now they want to treat you like a regular “office drone”.

  9. So what you’re saying is that places that overcharge for their goods are elitist?

  10. By the way, nobody’s commented on my fabulous Photoshop work on the “You Will Pay More” latte Art.

Would it help if your coffee said this:
    Latte Art: Sorry

    Or this:
    Latte Art: Fuck Off

  11. fanboyoboy says:

Fausto you have a way boiling things down to their essence. 🙂 Yep! you said best, Thanks.

  12. kieran says:

Many too much coffee causes our friend to have ADD. How much does he drink a day? Why do so many Americans think there is something wrong with them? None of us is perfect. Fausto is right on the money about focus, training and different types of learning. My coffee and blueberry scone at Starbucks is 550 Yen. Times that by 5 and keep going…I am keeping someone in a job. This was a good programme. I like the fiesty ones.

  13. kieran says:

I want the Fuck Off coffee almost as good as Fuku sake

  14. J.J. says:

I don’t typically get too jacked up over java, but speaking as a native Chicago boy from da West Side (and a first-time listener…erm…do I get beads or somethin’?), I’m really glad to hear that Mike is finally getting a chance to taste some locally-grown brew.

  15. You have to pull the beads of the drag queen

    Carrie

  16. BASboy says:

I am loyal to no coffee company… enough Half and Half and sugar and it all tastes the same. I only buy coffee when I am out and about due to being ADD and needing a boost to my focus. I try to not buy coffee if I am out only because of the expense as if you really look at it, the average cup of coffee is 20oz and costs $2. Yet a gallon of gas is average of $3 for 128 oz. In other words a gallon of coffee would be $12.80.

I think the ADD stuff was brilliantly touched on for the amount of time that was provided for it. It was even funnier that everyone talked like they were buzzed on some very strong coffee.

  17. BASboy says:

    Oh, two other points.

    1. Fausto, nice coffee text
    2. Startbucks is implementing new machines that will make each cup individually and they will be raising their prices. The downside, studies show that if you use great coffee with these new machines, then it is a superior cup of coffee. But if you use the current stuff that Starbucks uses, the coffee just comes out tasting the same, if not worse. I read this in a blog of a company that was doing test comparisons. I wish I remembered the blog site, but that was about 4-6 months ago. A lot of surfing since then.

  18. I only charged Mike $2 for the coffee.

  19. Kieran says:

and no mention of coffee enemas?

  20. Coffee Enemas? YIKES!

    According to http://www.ineedcoffee.com/01/enema/
    they say “coffee cleaning works.”

I’ll take my cup the old fashioned way, down my pie hole, thank you.

  21. Kieran says:

I heard the coffee enemas are big with the people who go to Thailand for ‘fasting’ . There is a very popular place in Koh Samui where people go to lose weight, detox and all that and coffee enemas are part of it. Sounds horrible.

  22. Coffee enemas are fantastic!
    Seriously.

  23. Nidocamen says:

Great photoshop work Fausto!! And I totally understand Mike and his new relationship. I don’t believe I have A.D.D., but I am also spending a lot of quality time with my boyfriend and I’ve never found someone who treats me so well and loves me as much as I love him.

Awesome show once again, and yeah……I’m totally one for visiting the non-chain coffee houses!!!

  24. stephen says:

I really enjoyed this podcast, especially the portion relating to your ADHD struggles..

I myself have ADHD (actually diagnosed) and have always felt kind of out of the loop socially. Things dont seem so tangible, or real. And I very rarely connect with people, and especially men.

My dating life, social life and career all suffer on account of not being able to really take life in. I have days where I am as sharp as a whistle on certain things, and then 2 hours later I wont even remember where I live. :(..

I notice when I am on medicine for ADHD, I get promotions, my bills get caught up, my weight drops, I become more social. Things seem to improve on paper, However I feel somewhat dead and drugged.

But anyways, back to you. 🙂 It was nice to hear someone else describe a few of the issue I myself suffer from being a gay boy with ADHD, thanks for sharing 🙂
