Bluefin tuna is so endangered that these lovely Pandas sacrificed themselves to give the tuna a break. Mmmm….Kentucky Fried Panda: It’s finger Ling Ling good! via

And you can make a nice coat out of their fur.

Seriously, the campaign should be in Japanese because 70% of all bluefin tuna is consumed in Japan.

it’s not just the Asian countries in the Pacific that are overfishing this Tuna, other countries like Spain come all the way over there to fish too.

I am conflicted by this issue tho, while I do feel bad that this species is going extinct, at the same time, it is so tasty D: I could eat it totally raw.

yet I didn’t realize that this tuna is now on the brink of extinction, which is unfortunate. I highly doubt, the fishing of this fish will ever stop, because it is such a profitable business, a single fish can be auctioned off for $1000s of dollars. When I was in Tokyo I went to the biggest fish market in the country, and there was blue fin tuna everywhere, in the main market area, and in special rooms where the fish was being auctioned off. Here is a photo of some guy cutting up the fish….

and this is what it looks like when its all cut up.

hopefully governments will step in to keep this fish from becoming extinct, cos once they do become extinct that huge business will be gone, so they are only hurting themselves really.

“I could eat it raw.” Not in 2013, you can’t.

The operative phrase here is “charismatic megafauna”: animal species with widespread appeal that conservationists use to draw attention to their goals. Pandas, dolphins, tigers: anything humans epitomize as symbols of cuteness, fun or even sexual magnetism.

It’s a bit sad because creatures that occupy very special ecological niches but aren’t as attractive get ignored. Like, most people aren’t aware that the vulture population of Asia is 95% extinct because they fed on livestock carcasses that were full of a painkiller that eventually built up in their systems and gave them kidney failure. Vultures are ugly, eat dead things, and poo on themselves to cool off. But they matter! Those dead things they normally eat are piling up and rotting because there aren’t enough vultures to go around. It’s sad. 🙁

I just read my own comment, and it dawned on me: I am the Lisa Simpson of the Fresh forum, aren’t I? So now y’all know the tone to use if you ever read my comments on the show again. 😉
