This is a really interesting article on caloric restriction and longevity.  Intermittent caloric restriction sounds promising, though I’m not sure I have the discipline for it.

    Actually Than… its pretty easy once you do it a few times. I have played with Intermittent Fasting for weight loss. 16 hours is the magical number in that your Human Growth Horemones are primed and it is a great time to do some exercise. But 16 hours or 24 hours / twice a week is easier becasue you sleep through a good 1/2 to 1/3 of it. Also, you can cheat it a little if you are really hungry, just do steamed spinich or vegetables or something Non Protein like (Snack portion… not a meal). Its the lack of protein that is really key to getting your body to react really well in the fasting stage. There is also a diet that is the Warrior Diet where you eat one huge meal a day (start with meat till you are feeling 3/4 full then finish up with vegetable and and carbs you want.) Some light snacking of vegatbles are allowed if you must.
