    Samuel hurt his cervical spine and after the 3 hour emergency operation they put him in an artificial coma. Now his state is critical but his life is not in danger according to the hospital. Before the operation he was partially paralyzed. Once the doctors wake up him from the artificial coma they will know if he will be partially paralyzed or can recover fully from the accident.

    Meanwhile the state owned TV channel, ZDF, announced they want to continue with the show as there has been no serious accident the last 29 years and the show is still very popular.

    Thomas Gottschalk, the long-time host of the German TV show “Wetten, dass…?” (“Wanna bet?”), has announced he will retire after 25 years. He said the show has been under a shadow since a Samuel Koch was paralyzed during a live stunt.

    I am really surprised but respect his decision. My generation grew up with Wetten Dass, no other show was so successful and had so many international stars on in Europe. It is not the end of the show but without Thomas Gottschalk who currently lives in Miami, it is not the same.
