Wow!! I had no idea this place existed!! I know exactly where it is, but I didn’t know that it was the oldest gay bar in the west. What a shame it was torn down.
sniffle, sniffle, (a tear drops onto my keyboard). Not the Radio City, any bar but the Radio City….(rips shirt in sadness and frustration).
Seriously though I spent sooooo many nights there during the beer bust days in the 80’s when me and my best friend Joe would make the Gay Bar Beer Bust circuit and the Radio City if I’m remembering right, was Wednesday night. Every Wednesday we went.
The place was a dump but it was an institution. I remember hearing the old timers talk about it’s glory days when it was apparently very nice and was described by one friend as having been very “piss elegant” with gold lame curtains and a 50’s glam-chic interior.
The video was a hoot, filled with old friends. I knew everyone that spoke and it even showed one of my old roommates sitting in the City Council chambers during the recent Gays Rights law passage.
Thank you so much for sharing. Here’s one for my homies (pours beer on keyboard – keyboard shorts out…&&%$#)
