In Oregon, a judge decreed that the DMV must issue driver’s licenses for non-binary people and mark them with an X for unspecified or as we call it, X-ceptional! This is a momentous occasion that’s been a long time coming as people who don’t identify as either male or female will finally gain the freedom and recognition they deserve.
Today we are chatting with Lake Perriguey esq., the attorney who brought the case before the court on behalf of his client Sgt. First Class Jamie Shupe who identifies as non-binary.

My husband and I just moved to the Portland-Vancouver area, and I wonder what Lake thinks about the controversy surrounding the Portland pride parade.

Basically, the Pride Northwest committee asked the LGBTQIA police officers participating in the parade not to wear their uniforms, but to wear department polos instead. The Portland police department is perhaps the most progressive in the nation, having been the earliest police department in the nation to ever participate in pride, with the largest percentage of out LGBT officers, and this request created backlash from members of the police community.
