Like an episode of the prime time melodrama Empire, the case of Jussie Smollett has everyone hanging on the edge of their seat wondering was he or wasn’t he a victim of a hate crime?

Out gay African American actor Jussie Smollett from the TV series Empire maintains he was the victim of a brutal hate crime in late January but the Chicago police have charged him with filing a false report to gain sympathy and to get a raise.

Progressive comedian and political commentator Trevor Noah says that despite the Chicago police’s history of murder, cover ups and illegal detentions, the public should believe them because they have no stake in whether Jesse is lying or not and no matter the outcome, they still get to arrest a black man.

Today, comedian Matt Brown joins us to take a look at the complicated case of Jussie Smollett and how race, sexual identity, celebrity and fascism intertwine to make for one hell of a case.
