I almost sent you an Email with the “Think Pink” clip because I just saw it today. Looks like you caught it at exactly the same time I did. I have never seen this movie, but I did read somewhere that the performer’s name is none other than the fabulous Kay Thompson, who, aside from being a fablously stylish and entertaining actress and singer, was also an accomplished musician and arranger. What a gem to share this with us!!!! THINK PINK!!!
I love Funny Face! — who can resist Audrey Hepburn dancing on table tops in a Parisian beatnik bar, wearing her signature cigarette pants??? (hint: not me.)
Although it is a TAD unbelievable that a much-older, much-wrinklier Fred Astaire is her love interest… just sayin’.
Think Pink is a great song — and I love it even more with a gay subtext! I was surprised to find that I still remember all the lyrics.
Rcktman — you should get the Funny Face soundtrack, and check out Kay Thompson’s chops on “Clap Yo’ Hands” — she brings the house down. What a dame.
Funny you should mention “Clap Yo’ Hands,” Maia (by the way, thanks for your wonderful comment on my blog today!) … the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus just performed that song this past weekend at their 25th anniversary concert. We’ve done a few Kay Thompson arrangements in my time — one of my favorites is her take on “Jingle Bells.” Fabulousity!
You’re KIDDING! What a coincidence. Then you really must listen to Kay Thompson’s performance of it on the Funny Face soundtrack — you’ll love it.
Okay, I have something to admit: I would love to join the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus. Do you have a soprano section, by any chance? What’s a Broadway-loving lesbian supposed to do??? I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction, Rick!
p.s. Yes, I can do jazz hands. Drives my partner crazy.
