The imam of the mosque at Ground Zero says that although some people are naturally inclined to be gay, most turn to homosexuality because of some sexual abuse or violent trauma.

I still think very little beats fantasy author Anne McCaffrey and her absolutely bat-wit Tent Peg Theory.
I can’t figure what exactly “Tent Peg” means in this context.
Quick overview: Anne McCaffrey’s most popular series is the Dragonriders of Pern, a universe in which an elite group of people defend their planet against parasitic spores by flying fire-breathing dragons, to which they are each psychically bonded; so much so that when dragons mate, their riders mate. Usually the riders are opposite-sex couples like their dragons, but there’s the potential for men who ride boy dragons to sex up men who ride girl dragons. The interviewer asked McCaffrey whether that might go against the riders’ inherent sexual orientation, and she responded no, with a long explanatory tangent:
“It’s a proven fact that a single anal sex experience causes one to be homosexual. The hormones released by a sexual situation involving the anus being broached, are the same hormones found in large quantities in effeminate homosexual males. For example, when I was much younger I knew a young man who was for all intents and purposes, heterosexual. He was mugged, and involved in a rape situation involving a tent peg. This one event was enough to have him start on a road that eventually led to him becoming effeminate and gay. ”
The interviewer’s response was basically to shuffle papers, clear throat, and move on. Because really now…
I theorized later that her poor guy friend should not have waited so long to come out, so she wouldn’t have been able to indulge in the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Then again, he could have been in a car accident and landed on the gear shift funny, and then when he came out, it would have just become McCaffrey’s Gear Shift Theory. Chock full o’ nuts, that woman is.
