China’s Happy Marriage Committee doesn’t really exist but they have an “official stamp” of approval for gay couples that want to get married. Gay rights and health advocates are promoting marriage as a way to combat HIV/AIDS.
But not everyone agrees on marriage as an effective tool-

I don’t think that is an effective tool too.
As long as many gay men in China are pressured by their families to marry a woman, particular due to the one child policy and often have to or want to hide their sexuality, nothing will change. Further HIV/AIDS is often an absolute tabu in China.
This is just simply another policy of China to pretend to improve the situation of people without really adressing the real problems. Already the name of the committe says it all “Happy Marriage Committee”, looks like they cannot really do much to make gay couples happier.
