For an institution that has persecuted queers and to this day refuses to allow gay men and lesbians to serve openly, the U.S. military has sure used some outrageously homoerotic art over the years.

I would HIGHLY recommend “The straight state : sexuality and citizenship in twentieth-century America” which looks at same-sex activity in the military in addition to immigration and welfare.

Very informative and helped me better understand what role the government has played in creating separate rules for LGBT people.
