It drove me nuts witnessing the Civil Union signing today in Illinois and Governor Quinn and Rep Harris, the sponsor of the bill, saying things like the “majority has spoken and that’s why we have civil unions.”
It flies in the face our current thinking- that civil rights should not depend on a majority as we see how that has worked in California and other places.
I brought it up to many people at the after party and they were also confused by these statements.
Anyway- Illinois is now the 6th state to have marriage or civil unions. Hoorah!
