“This has been a highly requested feature from users,” says a Facebook rep. “We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook.”

    But only in the US, UK, Canada, France and Australia. Strictly speaking a lot of those places don’t even have civil unions. NZ does, but we don’t have the option. WTF, FB?

    This is a huge step Angela. Look how long it took to abolish slavery, for RIcky Martin to come out and for Natalie Portman to make a good movie. We can ride this out.

    Yeah, I know it’s mostly a good thing, I just wonder why it’s been applied so selectively in places where civil unions might not be performed or recognized, while leaving out places that do perform/recognize them. I’m not calling “discrimination” so much as “bug report”. 😉
