RuPaul calls this season’s contestants on her reality TV show “less diplomatic” than last year’s, but some would say “ghetto.” Jade Sotomayor, from the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race joins us to talk about the show’s new season which is like Bad Girls Club on testosterone with lots of glitter.

Ugh, I’m looking forward to the day when Mystique is voted off. She seems like such an unpleasant, angry, violent person. It’s sad that in the year 2010 saying “I’ll whoop your ass” over a disagreement is exonerated as funny entertainment instead of being condemned. I mean, I get that it’s drag queens and “reality” tv, but resorting to violence or threats of violence are not ok. I liked how Morgan called her bluff and said “hit me.” I kinda wish she had already because Mystique would be off the show.

Overall, I love the show and I’m so glad it’s back with a new season.
I don’t see Mystique making it to the end, but I really enjoyed seeing the conflict unfold, mostly because the last show (with some exceptions) was relatively a love fest.
A show full of drag queens all competing for a very lucrative prize, and NO conflict? Now that’s an illusion more impressive than tucking their weenies between their pants!
I’ve been a drag queen a whole lot longer that all these bitches on the show (probably) and I’ve seen a lot unfold in my short lifetime, so lets laugh at the conflict instead of recoiling in horror.
In one way though, this is the only thing most people see regarding real drag queens, so I can understand why the producers are a bit hesitant to show people at their worst as well as at their best.
When we were at the bar and Mystique said that, the whole crowd cheered. Logo chose to air that fight, and I think it was a good decision. Maybe Mystique and the other girls will see that and not be so mean to each other?
I enjoy conflict in entertainment but there is a different between real conflict and violence.
I really, really liked the first season because they were all, as Jade said today, professionals. They were the first real drag queens on tv and they put a decent face to drag and showed how artistic and creative they were. Now this season (so far) seems to be the bitchy, caddy stereotypical “drag queen.” And whatever, I’ll still watch it.
But when someone resorts to violence over a disagreement, that’s not cool. If it was a show where someone told the little gay boy, “I’m gonna whoop your ass” you’d be indignant. As you should be.
Whenever I hear someone say something like that, in any situation, it’s sad. Inflicting harm on someone because you’re angry isn’t conflict, it’s violence and it’s wrong.
I’m not backing down on this Fausto 🙂
I’ll be happy when the angry and violent Mystique is eliminated and I hope she seeks out anger management counseling.
I really didn’t see how it all started as we ran into some friends at that time, but being in Chicago, we all laughed we said said it. It reminded me of Obama saying “Let me tell you something. I’m from Chicago. I don’t break.”

And boy did she have big shoulders. But in the end, I think it was just bravado and not a real threat. I didn’t take it seriously.

Well…I must say when big gurl Mistique hit the floor in a split it was amazing! The only thing better was that she got up. I really wished she would have hit her too, television is supposed to be entertaining and it defiantly was! Love the podcast!
I love the effects an increased budget has had on the show. One episode in and I’m already hooked. I was a little worried from the promos that the girls were going to be more homogenized, personality-wise, but I’m seeing standouts already. So far I am on team Mistique.
Ok how about some hot pix of Jade Sotomayor as his male dancer side? He’s soooo cute and smooth!
As for the show, I agree w/ Jade, they’re heading to ‘Rock of Love’ – Jerry Sringer side of reality t.v. and that to me is tiresome after 3 episodes.
I”m more into drag queens w/ comedy or performing talent. Not who can scream the loudest.

IIRC Bebe mentioned in one of the 1st episodes that she was modeling in Paris and they didn’t have enough women so they made him up as a woman. 🙂
