Although the Babadook is the latest creature to be ushered into the pantheon of gay monsters for its refusal to be kept in the shadows, no other monster has inspired LGBT folks more than Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

From the original 1931 classic film starring Boris Karloff to Tim Curry’s brilliant creation of Dr. Frank N Furter, Frankenstein appeals to gender and sexual non-conformists because the creature is tragically misunderstood and is only a monster because society sees him as such.

Today Peaches Christ joins us from her secret laboratory in San Francisco to talk about Frankenstein and movie monsters that thrill LGBT folks.

Even Boris Karloff who played Frankenstein in the classic 1931 film also dressed up in drag for the TV series “The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,” in the episode “The Mother Muffin Affair.” Fair Use, Source: Wikimedia Commons, Flickr.

Even Herman Munster is getting into drag. Fair Use: source.
