    I would translate as:

    ”It is true that at that moment I could not take care of this matter … I was consumed primarily by the October crisis (Cuban Missile Crisis), war, political issues …”

    And this:

    “Escapar a la CIA, que compraba tantos traidores, a veces entre la misma gente de uno, no era cosa sencilla; pero en fin, de todas maneras, si hay que asumir responsabilidad, asumo la mía.”

    I would translate as:

    “Escaping the CIA, which was paying off so many traitors, even sometimes among one’s own people, it was not a simple thing, but in the end, anyway, if one must take responsibility, I take mine.”

    I wonder if maybe the Cuban government censored the original interview, the writes style may have originally been clear. But after a few things get taken out at the request of a dictatorship it starts to read strangely.
