A lot of the topics on today’s show is about death. Not just the literal end of life, as in the death of Tammy Faye Bayer (who passed away on Friday at the age of […]

fausto you ditz! tammy faye was aged 65, weighing 65 pounds. poor girl.

  2. RcktMan says:

And her name was Bakker, not Bayer. 😉 Get some sleep, girlfriend. 🙂 XOXO

  3. Steven says:

It could have been worse — he could have called her Tammy Faye Dunaway… 😉

  4. In 2004 Tammy Faye was on an interview on NPR. She was asked what her thoughts were on being a gay-icon. She actually had a good answer. She simply said that “we agree to disagree”. She did not agree with the gay life-style, but she was tolerant. If more of us could only “agreee to disagree”, we would be a much more peaceful planet.

  5. Maia says:

I’m still trying to figure out the mysterious significance of the empty 3+ minutes at the end of today’s podcast… I was hoping for an easter egg inside an easter egg (like those Russian nesting dolls). But just silence. A tribute to John Cage, maybe?

Friday night in Andersonville was fun — it was great to see so much hustle and bustle along Clark Street — I’m glad you captured some of it. We were at Sweet Occasions, and they had the black licorice ice cream! Cliff, there is hope!

  6. RcktMan says:

In Tammy Faye’s last interview with Larry King, she was asked via email:

“Unlike many of your Christian contemporaries, you have been a very positive influence in the gay community. Why do you think you found it in your heart to love and accept us?”

Her answer was: “Well, you know when I went – we lost everything – it was the gay people that came to my rescue and I will always love them for that.”

  7. RcktMan says:

You guys were out and you didn’t tell me? 🙁 Wah.

  8. Maia says:

no, no… it was a lesbian double-date with two of our best friends. Cliff is coming to town later – a week from now? … I was just giving hopeful news about the availability of licorice ice cream. You know we wouldn’t leave you out, Rick! 🙂

  9. RcktMan says:

LOL I know… just layin’ a guilt trip on ya. 😀

Meanwhile, people should be using this to comment on the show… hehe… Sorry, guys!!!

  10. We were “hit and run” podcasting guys- we went to tape the people waiting in line, and then took off.

  11. Maia says:

Rick, no more guilt trips!…. I have an overactive guilt gland, and you shouldn’t take advantage. ; )

Back to your regularly scheduled commenting:
I looked up Focus on the Family, and they were founded in 1977, making them the original FOF, the bastards. I can only take solace in the fact that if their name were pronounced by a certain German professor of mine, it would sound like “f*ck us.” That’s a small comfort.

I don’t know much about Tammy Faye, but I’m glad she was able to separate her personal feelings about gays from her religion. Really, for people to use a smokescreen of Christianity (a religion based on radical love and “judge not lest ye be judged”) to hit below the belt with messages of hate and fear in order to get money & votes… it’s just sick. Good for Tammy Faye for realizing the hypocrisy of the situation.

  12. Gary T says:

I was fortunate enough to see Tammy Faye at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on Pink Saturday (the night before the Pride Parade) June 25, 2005. They were showing Tammy Faye : Death Defying at the GLBT Film Festival. She showed up to the showing in a pink dress, pink shoes and pink nails. She was in the gayest place on earth at the gayest time of the year, and she looked so radiant being adored by all the gay men. She answered questions after the movie and I was quiet impressed. Even though she didn’t support the term “gay marriage” she said she supported gay couples having all the same rights as “marriage”. She just got hung up on the word marriage for religious reasons. For a person of her upbringing to come that far I’m sure took a lot of courage and conviction.

  13. Eric says:

If not for actually benifiting gay rights, I must thank Tammy Faye for her time on the Surreal Life, which was incredibly entertaining.
I can’t decide if I should listen to the Easter Egg or not, as I’m sure it will have good insight into the book, but I want to finish it on my own first.
    G.S. (of course).

  14. Um OMG I almost had a heart attack, I haven’t finished the book yet and I don’t know what Fausto was about to say but until i finish this book i think i need to stay away from all media outlets. Though I found that from as far as i have rea which is chapter 18 thaat whatI got for spoiler was not to far off base.

Now for a REAL comment on today’s show.. 🙂

Steven was so much fun on today’s show. He’s a funny honey… made me laugh out loud a few times (and Fausto and Marc, too!) More Steven!!! 🙂

I enjoyed the interview with the trans kids in line at Women & Children First. They sounded so sweet and sure of themselves. It’s so great that kids are able to feel confident in who and what they are at such an early age. When I was their age, I was such a wreck… it’s a wonder I made it out alive!!

One last thought: Weren’t the Muggles the guys that did “Video Killed the Radio Star?” Or was that the Buggles? I always forget.

Great show as always… can’t wait for The Simpsons!!!

  16. We’ll be at Gentry on State at 9pm on Thursday evening, then head on to the movie theater (600 N. Michigan) at 10:30. See you there!

  17. Anna says:

I have a link and a blog sicker on my site. It’s been there for a while.

If anyone wants a more detailed spoiler, check the Wikipedia entry for the book.

  18. Anna says:

…but it’s not the one linked from my FoF profile. Here: http://www.eclecticlibrarian.net/blog/

  19. Reneecamp says:

About dating someone you work with… NOOOO!! I dated someone I worked with (and still do) and it ended badly and it took forever to get over it because he was in my face everyday. But now he has a different GF and he has become fat and gross and I hate that he saw me naked. NOT WORTH IT!

  20. Andrew J says:

Man I love Harry Potter. I was the 380th person in line (out of the people who had reserved it) in my bookstore. Got my book at 1 AM but I didn’t finish it until midnight on Sunday night. I had too many other things going on over the weekend. It was great.

Here’s my blog for the blogroll!
