A firestorm has erupted over an ambitious reporter who was writing a story about an amazing new golf club only to discover it’s inventor Dr. V had falsified her educational background and that she was transgender. After telling the inventor that he would include his findings in the story, Dr. V commited suicide.

Today Brian Sweeney joins us to take a look at the death of transgender inventor Dr. V and why journalist Caleb Hannan coldly peeled back the layers of this woman’s life.

   Great podcast guys! I also saw the pilot episode of “Looking”. Hairy guys are not for me but it looks like an interesting show. FYI – Queer As Folk is coming to Netflix on February 1, 2014.

     Why do all these TV shows focused on gay men make me feel stupid? It’s like we’re all emotionally handicapped.

     The best gay character on TV ever was Billy Crystal as Bobby on Soap.

   Thanks for bringing attention to this story. In all the handwringing over Dr. V’s identity the press and trams activists have mostly failed to recognize that she did not identify as trans.    It is testimony to the invisibility of intersex people that even gender activists assume that someone who lived as a male, then subsequently as a female must be tran. technically she may have appeared to have crossed gender lines, but in her identity, she claimed to be intersex, and we usually defer to people’s right to self identify.

   Brian and Fausto, your Idina Menzel impression had me laughing on the train like a crazy person. Fausto, I don’t think you get enough praise for your impersonations…I especially loved the your Butters (South Park) a while ago 🙂
