FOF #1665 – Revenge of the Nerds

Sep 25, 2012 · 24667 views

At one point in time comic books, sci-fi and computers were seen as fringe elements that people were embarrassed to be associated with. Now, nerd culture is a billion dollar industry- the biggest films, books and expos are all about the geeky things that used to get you beat up.

Somehow, a little thing called the internet became a big thing, and now the underground is everywhere. Anyone, anywhere can access pretty much anything to get their geek on..

Change can be a good thing, especially when three hunky brothers all decide to wear Superman t-shirts. Woof.

But has something been lost along the way? Are comic book conventions now just another expo, showcasing the latest products people need to buy? Does everyone see themselves as an underdog, even the bullies?

Have nerds lost their way to Mordor?

Joining us today is the very funny Brian Sweeney, expert on everything to talk about what we lose and gain as nerd culture goes mainstream, and how to prepare for when LGBT culture hits the big time.

Join us for this and all the hot news:

After 20 years, the groundbreaking LGBT TV show “In the Life” goes into the grave.

Cowboys.com just got a lot sexier.

And a loo with a view- toilets at a club in NYC are perched in front of windows so you can see out, trouble is, people can also see in while you do your business.

  1. One of the millions of reasons I love Brian Sweeney: His ability to mock gay culture in a way that is hilarious and not offensive. “Y’Alls Balls”. Priceless.
Lady Gaga’s perfume is a nice fragrance, but it isn’t as unique as it should be. I sampled both her perfume and the new Dolce & Gabbana; D&G was far more unique. Completely backwards. But it smells good and its a great collectors item.
