After the BP disaster everyone should finally realize the area of cheap oil which our economy depends on is about to end in the near future. Of course there are still other oil fields but they are not as large as the enormous oil fields in Saudi Arabia which have already peaked and it is more expensive to access new oil fields. The largest oil field was discovered in 1965! Although the economy still hasn’t recovered fully we have an oil prize of about $80 Dollar per barrel. At price of about $100 per barrel most airlines have already trouble, at a price of about $120 per barrel many airlines will go bankrupt. But an oil price of about $200 per barrel and higher is very likely within the next 6 or 8 years as demand is increasing much faster than supply.

Here is an interesting documentary about the end of cheap oil:

GREAT show! you covered so many topics AND i laughed my ass off.

very interesting points about oil…i feel very strongly that we should drill domestically. We have the environmental regulations that minimize disasters. Unlike Ecuador and Nigeria, just to mention two countries suffering environmental damages every year. We’re essentially exporting our pollution. the easiest solution that would wean us off oil and generate innovation is a $2-$3/gallon tax on gas. anyone else with me? even Finland, a huge oil exporter, taxes gas heavily: a gallon of gas is ~$6/gallon ($1.50/liter).

anyone with me? while we’re at it, lets stop subsidizing corn and rice and start subsidizing fresh veggies and fruit!
