Mamie Van Doren’s personality, joy and passion is the secret not just to a long life, but a happy one, despite all the tragedies that can befall us. What an inspiring woman, with a great rack too!

I did a TV show with Mamie (the “Kup” show in Chicago) in t he late 70’s for a full uninterrupted hour. I was pitching my first book, The Other Man, The Other Woman: Understanding and Coping with the Extramarital Affair. Also on the show was George Savalas (the brother of Tally of Kojak fame). He wanted to strangle me and I didn’t understand why. I was not promoting affairs just discussing the dynamics and how it impacted relationships.
Mamie was my protector–I was not experienced with being on TV and was taken by surprise with George’s hostility. After the show going down in the elevator (with her bodyguard and puppies) she explained that George had recently discovered his wife with another man in their bed! My point to this long story is that I found Mamie to be a genuine sweetheart, none of that Hollywood fake for her!
