Fausto Fernós is the host of iTunes’ #1 LGBT talk show, the Feast of Fun podcast, which he produces and hosts with his partner, Marc Felion.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Fausto Fernós created the Feast of Fools in 1998 as wacky artists variety show in Chicago, Illinois. Feast of Fun grew out of an audio blog to promote the live show into the world’s most downloaded talk show aimed for gay people.
When he’s not blogging, recording or sleeping, Fausto can be found at the gym or appreciating the beauty found in nature.

After listening to this episode I was emailed this piece of information about American Democracy.
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?
This is the most interesting thing I’ve read in a long time.
The sad thing about it, you can see it coming. I have always heard about this democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print. God help us, not that we deserve it. About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some
2,000 years earlier:
‘A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.’
‘A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.’
‘From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.’
‘The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.’
‘During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith
2. from spiritual faith to great courage
3. from courage to liberty
4. from liberty to abundance
5. from abundance to complacency
6. from complacency to apathy
7. from apathy to dependence
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Gore: 19 Bush: 29
Square miles of land won by: Gore: 580,000 Bush: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Gore: 127 million Bush: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Gore: 13.2 Bush: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: ‘In aggregate, the map of the territory Bush won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country
Gore’s territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…’
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the ‘complacency and apathy’ phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the ‘governmental dependency’ phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal’s and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

It was nice to hear you guys mention stevia. I’m always trying to avoid fructose and sucralose and I use Jay Robb’s Whey Protein powder which is all natural and uses stevia as a sugar substitute. I heard and have seen stevia used all over Japan, but here in Taiwan I’ve never seen it used anywhere.
I wondered if this stuff was safe. It’s hard to find any information on it. Jay Robb’s works well for me and it’s reassuring to know that Ronnie endorses nevia. If it’s good for Ronnie, I know it’s good for me! I don’t mean this to sound like an ad or anything. I’m just saying thanks for the reassurance!

You should have called one of your friends from New York on their opinions on Sept. 11, I know I have stories. I was in the 7th grade living in Ct. (suburbs of NY). I hade kids, friends of mine, who lost parents, aunts, uncles. Kids who knew people in the towers at the time the planes hit. These kids lost their parents, and will never be the same.

Get well soon Marc, and it is fabulous to hear some more Miss Ronnie! I really like this episode, its just amusing useless information, similar to when everyone was talking about the longest name for everything.
So Miss Ronnie said how upset she would get b/c the childrens who have the ability to vote, but don’t. I agree that there is no reason for it, but one of the main reason why many young adults who have the ability to vote but don’t is because they feel that their vote does not count and it sucks b/c I wanted to vote in the last election but couldn’t b/c I was 17, my birthday was the day after :(, and I know many people who wanted to vote but couldn’t b/c they are undocumented. So yeah, they need to exercise their privilege, to be able to voice the options of those who don’t have that privilege. And then there are those who are hypocritical about voting. I met some students, they don’t vote but they complain about what the government is doing. That makes me pissed off.
With 9/11, I didn’t really hear that much about it except for the View and news. What is happening now, was totally not the game plan for when it was 2001. A friend of mine is being shipped off this November as a medic to Afghanistan. Its weird to see him go.
If you want to take stickers off a surface, and this is like hardcore old stickers. You can use mayo. Apply mayo on the sticker, wait a couple of minutes and scrape it off.
The singing was fabulous. I miss when Miss Ronnie and Fausto would sing the songs from Dreamgirls which pissed off Marc. Hehe.
I appreciate your efforts in making this episode not just devoted to 9/11. It was fun listening to interesting facts. Thanks for making me laugh.
The events of 9/11 are and will always be a time of remembrance and reflection – Yes. However, in midst of remembering the lost lives and honoring the many heroes of such a tragic time – we can celebrate life! We can be grateful for the continuation of our lives and humanity as a whole.

I appreciate how open you all are in your opinions and I like how you try to make your viewpoints understandable for every person’s eyes. Concerning 9/11 and terrorism there are so many different things to bring up, however, I have never been asked to examine WHY America would be targeted. My answer is way too long (AP history jr. year) to post, but I just have to thank you for bringing up that excellent question.

What an EXCELLENT show! Fausto Fausto Fausto, we need you to mimic your mother more often (well, maybe not, that way it is more special when you do it). I could not stop laughing! You sound just like her.
On a more serious note, I couldn’t help but agree with your mom. I got over it the next day. I had JUST moved to Washington DC when it happened. After a day of chaos and realizing what happened, I remembered Oklahoma City, which to me is MUCH MUCH worse than 11 Sept. Why? Home grown terrorism, one of our own. Do people remember how many people died in OK City? Do people remember the anniversary of OK City? Did the families of the OK City victims receive hundreds of thousands of dollars? No, they received nothing. For the record…home grown terrorists attacked the federal building in Oklahoma City 19 April 1995.
I’m not discounting that New Yorkers suffered. But they didn’t suffer more than we did in DC (pentagon, anthrax, sniper, all at the same time!) or those in Oklahoma City.
I’ve never heard of stevia, but avoiding corn syrup definitely resonated with me. It took a while to have a no high fructose corn syrup diet (that shit is in everything!), but so worth the effort. Sounds like stevia makes it easier.

Fausto, thank you for voicing your “religious” beliefs. I’ve had similar ideas for so long but have been unable to share them because none of my family or friends would ever understand. I’m glad I’m not alone out there.

to Fausto: Agnosticism has NO negative denotation in the English language.
It refers to the belief that no one knows, nor can someone know the existence or nature of God.
i.e. God is such an intense and broad idea, humans by nature cannot grasp the concept fully. If anything I think identifying as Agnostic is terribly humble when you think of all the people in American society who claim to know God totally.

I think the greater tragedy is not that Britney bombed her VMA performance, but that our own Congress failed to provide any alternative to the President’s “stay the course and do nothing” strategy towards Iraq. Get your heads out of the sand, people!
