FOF #922 – Superbowl XL Ay, Ay, Ay!

Marc and Fausto posing with the three People's Choice Podcast AwardsIt’s Superbowl XL ay ay ay! Andale, arriba!

Today we celebrate Feast of Fools as we enter our fifth year of podcasting. Yes folks, its been that long!

Our first podcast in 2005 examined the Superbowl halftime show and the commercials that went with it. We’ve done one every year since. In 2005 a lot of people turned to podcasting as a response to the FCC’s overreaction to Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction.” Janet Jackson’s exposed breast helped fuel the revolution in New Media.

Beating Howard Stern in the ChartsIn the first year of podcasting, Feast of Fools was in the top 100 of new subscriptions, at times even outranking Howard Stern and Senator Barack Obama’s podcast!

Our 44th President was a podcaster.

In this year’s Superbowl XLIII, which ads were a hit and the ones fizzled? Who shined and who botoxed? Was there a hairpiece malfunction?

This year’s ads stood in the dark shadow of the struggling economy, dominated by beverages, internet companies and movie and TV shows.

Car companies took a back seat as they waited out for bail out money. Still, we’re stoked that “Land of the Lost” is going to be made into a hilarious movie starring Will Ferrel and will include Chaka, dinosaurs and the Sleestaks. (Happy dance!) Click here to see all the ads on hulu.com.

Which ads were your favorites? Marc and I loved Conan O’Brien’s sissy Swedish Bud Light ad.

Jennifer Hudson made a triumphant return to the spotlight, singing a soulful version of the National Anthem. Bruce Springsteen’s still got it, and Journey’s back in action with a new Steve Perry sound alike, philipnio Youtube star Arnel Pineda.

Retired Olympic Swimmer Ian Thorpe and American Idol Judge Simon Cowell both declare they are still not gay.

More proof that gay men run the Smithsonian Museum: singer Aretha Franklin says she is considering a request from Washington’s Smithsonian Institution for the hat she wore to the recent presidential inauguration.

Marc Felion Wallpaper A terrible statistic: one out of five Irish GLBT folks attempts suicide.

“Pet of the Day” – who will it be?

The opening act “Hate Myself for Loving You” was by lesbian rocker JOAN JETT and the BLACK HEARTS. Joan looks awesome and her concerts are well worth experiencing.

  8. Cliff Dix says:

A super happy birthday to Marc. What a stud! Just look at him! Here’s to many, many more.
I too am super excited about the Land of the Lost movie. I watched the TV show every Saturday as a kid. I think ABC’s Lost with Jack, Kate and Sawyer owes a lot more than they are willing to admit to the original Land of the Lost. Think about it.
    Have a blast today Marc.

  9. Nidocamen says:

    Happy Birthday Marc…..again! :)

And yeah, I have to agree on the GoDaddy commercial. I buy my domains from them because they are cheap, but I hate their whole marketing campaign with the leather-clad girls. The guy who owns the company used to own Parsons Software……which I believe was involved with Intuit/Quicken at one point back in the 80s or 90s. Anyways, I wish their was a GAY domain company that advertised with hot guys………..I would totally switch to them in a second!! haha

  10. no mention of the G.I. Joe movie? I lol’d when the trailer for a seemingly indistinct action movie ended with that title.

  11. Marc Felion says:

We did see. The first hing I said was GI Joe? He better be hot.

My mother gave me a GI Joe doll for Valentine’s Day. Think she knew?

    Thanks for the birthday wishes.

  12. KylePalmer says:

All Irish persons should stop this suicide bit. Consumption of them will be tougher if they do not. This is my public service announcement. It is self serving.

  13. Christian83 says:

I always love when you guys sometimes do a show without a guest.

    お誕生日おめでと。 Enjoy your birthday, Marc!

  18. Happy Bird Day Marc!

Chris Pine as Kirk looks delicious, but I have a suspicion he’s going to be annoying to watch.

I’m looking forward to watching giant robots beating the crap out of each other when the Transformers sequel comes out.

  19. Jos says:

Many happy returns of the day Marc! and Fausto, u2, congratulations!!

  20. Tom Goss says:

    Congratulations guys!

  21. Kieran says:

Ian Thorpe was extremely popular in Japan and featured on many commercials and adverts. The odd thing is that Thorpe comes out as SOAP when pronounced using katakana, the J script used for foreign words. Hence you would hear commentators shouting : Goalin Soap Goalin Soap…Well goal-in is J English for touching the wall first in a swimming race or any time you come first.

  22. Drew says:

Happy Birthday Marc! You look marvelous!!! And happy anniversary for the podcast guys.
