2009 was a tough year. Major setbacks in marriage equality, corrupt banks, derailed health care reform make us ask “where’s the hope?” Chicago gay rights activist Andy Thayer of Gay Liberation Network joins us with some bold solutions to our biggest problems. Plus, he’s got breaking news on Boystown’s most corrupt cop, Officer Fiorito.

In the news: Sarah Palin gets a job as a commentator on Fox, a real-life Mrs. Robinson, tranny neanderthals and Mr. Gay China.

  1. Saulo says:

I was very upset about the news you guys brought today. Its passed the time we (and when I say we I mean the “GLOBAL we”) to ACT UP! to make our voices heard, to go out on the streets! I challenge YOU listener, YOU! To make your voice heard, wherever you are. To ACT!!! Things are not pretty and if we don´t act soon they won´t get any better…

  2. Blueboi says:

Im sorry to say i found this episode rather slow and boring. I know a lot of important issues were covered here, but i found myself tuning out for most of it.
Maybe i’m not that political? Or maybe i’m just tired of it. 🙁

  3. Andy says:

According to a study newspaper are still the most important source for local news.

“Newspapers and their Web sites provided 61 percent of the original reporting or fresh information on six major news stories that unfolded during the week of July 19-25, the study found. Local television stations and their Web sites accounted for 28 percent of the new information, followed by radio stations and their sites at 7 percent and Internet-only “new media” at 4 percent.”

  4. Mr Gay China was canceled by police because they didn’t “follow procedure.”

I listened to this show at the gym today, and was completely captivated by the political theme. I often find myself looking south to the US, and wondering what is wrong with that country. The USA could be greatest country in the world, if it wasn’t for the wacked-out bigots who have a voice in the country’s politics.

As for Prop 8, I was surprised to learn that the gay populace didn’t turn on the Mormons after the disasterous vote. There shouldn’t have been a single intact window in any of the Mormon temples across the whole state. That would have sent a message to the neo Borg of the Latter Day Saints. Gay people have to stop being so nice, hoping that our good behaviour will win out in the end. Want to send a strong message? Wrap it around a rock and throw it.

  6. Cray says:

Hey guys, I thought the show was great!

On a related note, I can’t remember if it was this show or the one before it, but you mentioned Cleve Jones. He was in Columbus for World AIDS Day and gave a talk at OSU. Afterwards, we had a cigarette together. He says he loves you guys and can’t wait to come back on the show next time he’s in Chicago. Don’t give up, that man is brilliant.

  7. Jerry says:

I thought this was one of the best shows ever. Andy Thayer is great! Thanks for having him on.

This wasn’t just a show bitching about problems, but what people can do about those problems.
Finally a show with some answers. I really, really enjoyed this one!
